Scammers can be "anywhere in the world" they want
With the availability of redirect services and the inexpensive cost, scammers can pretty much
be "anywhere in the world" they want. The way it works is they get a U.S., Canada, Australia,
etc. phone number and that number is redirected to another phone number just about anywhere
in the world including Nigeria, Ghana, Turkey, Morocco or anywhere.
Redirect services are one of the things if not the only thing that many scammers will actually
pay for themselves as opposed to trying to scam someone into paying for them. They would rather
use their scam for much bigger dollar amounts. For example, a scammer can get a phone number
with a Tulsa Oklahoma area code (918) and have that number forwarded to their phone for only
5.95/month and 0.20 cents per minute to Nigeria and Ghana or only 0.06 cents per minute to
South Africa.
